I think involvement in community events and activities is important, whether you’re unschooling or not. But especially if you’re skipping institutionalized education in order to widen their classroom (The world is our classroom kind of philosophy) Extending the child’s education into the community is probably one of the best socialization activities I can think of. Volunteering to serve in the community is important, as well as getting to know business owners, and other citizens. Remember Mr Rogers “These are the people in your neighborhood.” I don’t think it’s fair to school kids to believe that their teachers are fountains of knowledge, when in reality, everyone has something to teach us.

YES! This is excately the type of thing I try to inspire others to do - get more involved in their community and become active members of their neighborhoods.

    Thank you for the encouragment.
